Our History
The history of VTPortugal stems from a shared vision: to provide our customers with high-quality energy solutions, along with personalized, professional service tailored to the specific needs of the Portuguese market.
VT Batteries and Gaia Baterías—a company founded by Claudio Oliveira and José Vasconcelos, former employees of Exide Portugal—have entered into a business partnership with a shared goal: to boost and expand Exide Batteries’ presence in Portugal. This alliance has enabled both companies to become pioneers in launching the brand in the Portuguese market, achieving very positive results and laying the groundwork for a long-term strategic relationship.
The growth of this partnership led to a new milestone in March 2026 with the announcement of the creation of VTPortugal, a subsidiary of VT Batteries in Portugal, which began operations in April of that same year.
This new project represents the consolidation of VT Batteries' commitment to the Portuguese market and is part of its strategy for growth and international expansion in the Iberian Peninsula. To this end, VTPortugal maintains a physical presence in Vila Nova de Gaia, from which it operates its own facilities and serves customers throughout the country.
Our local presence allows us to be closer to our customers, optimize our logistics capabilities, improve response times, and offer a service tailored specifically to the unique characteristics of the Portuguese market.
